Engineering School

Preferring the sciences to the humanities, I hesitated between chemistry, mathematics, and biology. Considering the professional opportunities available at the time, I chose chemistry by enrolling in an integrated preparatory class in Rennes, which directed me towards the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (ENSCM).

During my three years of study at ENSCM, I deepened my knowledge in general chemistry and specialized in organic chemistry, a decision that proved pivotal for my future career. My three mandatory internships also allowed me to explore the professional world and satisfy my passion for travel.

My first three-month internship was at Areva NC in La Hague, France, where I worked as a radioprotection technician. This position involved analyzing samples collected around the plant to determine their levels of radioactive particles and ensuring they complied with regulatory standards. I chose to stay in France for this internship due to its remuneration and my interest in the nuclear field.

For my second three-month internship, I chose my destination based on the opportunities available and the chance to apply my newly acquired knowledge in organic chemistry from my second year. I joined the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, in Professor Montchamp's laboratory, a specialist in phosphorus chemistry. After three months of intensive research, I experienced the ultimate satisfaction for a young researcher: the publication of my research work in a scientific journal as the first author.

For my third six-month internship, I decided to take my first steps in the pharmaceutical industry at Bayer in Wuppertal, Germany. During this time, I contributed to the synthesis of molecules intended for testing in biological assays, with the hope of treating kidney diseases. After writing my internship report and obtaining my engineering degree in chemistry, it was time to think about the next steps.

Driven by a keen interest in research and motivated by a desire to contribute to the field of health, I embarked on a quest to pursue doctoral programs in chemistry. Obtaining a PhD is essential to access high-level positions in various research fields, whether in the agri-food, pharmaceutical, or perfume industry. After receiving several favorable offers, I decided to join Professor Britton's research group in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My doctoral journey officially commenced on January 3, 2017, and I earned the title of Doctor of Chemistry on January 21, 2022.
